UNGA 2017 - Education Side Events

The 72nd Regular Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 72) will convene at UN Headquarters on Tuesday, 12 September 2017. The General Debate will open on Tuesday, 19 September 2017, with a focus on the theme, ‘Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet’.

Book Launch: Empowering girls through education

Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and the SDG Agenda

The State of Qatar, The Center on International Cooperation at NYU, & Silatech Foundation

The side-event aims at providing an opportunity for participants to discuss how to prevent conditions that are conducive to violent extremism; share experiences and good practices in addressing the drivers of violent extremism; discuss how to strengthen the links between PVE and the SDGs – as fully implementing the SDGs will help prevent violent extremism by addressing the socio/economic/political factors that enable radicalization; examine how PVE should be linked to the UN’s renewed focus on sustaining peace; debate how to further involve youth and civil society to prevent and counter violent extremism.

ONE YEAR ON: Delivering on the promise of shared responsibility for refugees

This event will aunch a new report which will provide a stock tale of progress made in implemening the New York Declaration and Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) in pilot countries and will offer concrete recommendations for the Global Compact on Refugees.
