Summary

Exploring the effectiveness of Child Friendly Spaces in providing Early Chidhood Interventions for 3-6 year olds in fragile situations. This dissertation addresses the issue of providing effective Early Childhood Interventions (ECI) to children aged 3-6 years attending Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) in fragile situations. Analysis and findings include the success CFSs have in providing a physical space and opportunities to play, tensions between ensuring community ownership and introducing new concepts in ECI and finally a suggestion that there is a lack of Early Years expertise amongst agency staff in the field. The study concludes with recommendations including the need to bring more Early Years practitioners into the field and for clear direction in ECI advocacy work.
