Food, Water, Shelter, Wi-Fi: How Microsoft Is Helping Refugees

In a recent call to action, the Obama administration announced that 15 companies have committed to help refugees in three impact areas: education, employment and enablement (think internet service, bank accounts and infrastructure projects). Big corporations such as Accenture, Google and Mastercard are among the founding members of this private-sector push. Meanwhile, Microsoft Philanthropies, the software giant’s charitable giving arm, has kicked in $20 million in cash grants and products to facilitate refugee relief efforts.

UNRWA hosted more than 80 education practitioners, policymakers, academics, non-government officials, UN staff and representatives from countries across the globe who gathered in Amman, Jordan, for the biannual International Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) Working Group.  INEE is a global network of more than 12,000 members and 130 partner organizations that has worked to raise the visibility of the importance of education in emergencies and led on the development of key standards to support its implementation.

NDMA, British Council to Develop `Education in Emergencies’ Strategy

The British Council in Pakistan and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and collaborate for Education during Emergencies and disasters through mutual collaborative activities. The joint partnership aims to support NDMA’s Vision to achieve sustainable social, economic and environmental development in Pakistan through reducing risks and vulnerabilities, particularly marginalised communities in the country.

Education in Emergencies Global Consultation: a Common Platform

Businesses commit $50 million to get Syrian children back into school

EAA’s programme to jointly host INEE Global Consultation Event in Doha

On 29 and 30 September 2014, the Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict programme (PEIC) will jointly host the 2014 Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) Global Consultation Synthesis Event in Doha, Qatar in association with Reach Out to Asia (ROTA). The INEE network of members, to which PEIC belongs, includes practitioners working for NGOs, UN agencies, ministries of education and other government personnel who work to ensure the right to education for all, regardless of crisis or conflict.

INEE Global Consultation Benelux

Education and Development 27 May 2014

War Child Holland, as a member of the INEE Minimum Standards Working Group, and the IS Academie Education and International Development at the University of Amsterdam, hosted a consultative event for INEE members in the Benelux countries. The main aim of the event is to complete, as a regional group, the INEE 2014 Global Consultation template, for the global, regional (i.e. EU) and country levels. The event also provides the opportunity to share information and identify potential for collaboration.
